SIUE has hired outside security for Founders Hall

Perhaps you’ve seen the new security guard who stands outside Founders Hall.

This is a rare photo of our friend Siue Goose, because Goose McClane doesn’t like to flaunt his piece too much. This goose even has his or her own page on facebook. Everyday I have a class that puts me in the path of this unholy creature. My first encounter was the worst. I was taking the “poopypath” by Founders and this Goosinator comes from almost 30 yards away honking and hissing up a storm. Everyday since then I have been met with more hissing and a couple more charges towards me. I can’t really say I’m too scared of the dumb thing but its head happens to be at the same height as my crotch, so I’m a bit hesitant to get in an all out brawl with it. I’m going to keep taking my same route regardless of how mad or violent this goose gets because I’m not going to let some pissed off piece of dinner decide which paths I take around campus. Watch yourself around Founders, it’s hell out there!

Oh and be sure to read the article about the geese in the Alestle here.

Stay safe readers,
Jay

Top 5 Cartoons from My Childhood

Saw a similar article like this a while ago and I thought I’d throw in my own opinion.

My top 5 cartoons from my childhood ranked solely on how much I liked to watch them are:
5. Inspector Gadget

Possibly the first cartoon I ever watched on television. I was fascinated with how much stuff was crammed into this guy’s body. His car even transformed itself. The characters were shallow but I loved it. What kept me watching? Wanting to see if the chief ever got away from Inspector gadget without getting blown up by self-destructing paper.

4. Captain Planet

If I had paid a bit more attention to the last “morals minute” that this show had I would probably have figured out I was obese early on and saved myself all this trouble later in life. Oh well, this guy was an ass kicker. I mean, if you win the fight against an evil clone of yourself with nothing but good ol‘ fashioned love you are the most dangerous thing ever created. I don’t know why he didn’t just wear all five rings himself and strut around the Earth like a superhero treehuggin‘ pimp. What kept me watching? This came on right as breakfast started, there was nothing else I could think to watch while I wolfed down Pop Tarts.

3. Ren & Stimpy

Watching this cartoon was probably the closest thing to a hallucinogenic drug a child could do without sifting through a kitchen sink cupboard. I Still have no idea what was going on with this cartoon. It took me a year to figure out that they represented anthropomorphic animals. In one episode all of Ren’s teeth fall out and something that looked like a beaver was in his mouth chewing on his nerve endings. And all those rubber nipples and naked old people!? What WAS all that stuff about. What kept me watching? Log! Plain and simple. I was mesmerized by it’s mythical powers of mind control and fun.

2. Doug

This guy had more problems then me growing up so it was fun to watch a kid going through social hell, even if he was a cartoon. Doug had multi-colored friends, a coked out neighbor, and the ability to slip into highly detailed daydreams about himself dressed up as an underwear toting, belt miswearing, flying vigilante. All this with the comfort of knowing his dog Porkchop was right there with him all the time. What kept me watching? Patty Mayonnaise. Not really just her, but I just kept rooting for Doug. Everyone had to be wondering: Is this guy going to hit it or what?

1. Rocko’s Modern Life

It’s hard to explain what was so captivating about this show. I remember laughing ever episode at something crazy. So much sexual and racial inuendo too. Like when some guy at the supermarket badmouths sea mammals and gets his ass beat by a guy who’s MARRIED to a sea mammal. Rocko just wanted to live life, and that’s all I wanted too growing up. What an exceptional show. What kept me watching? Heffer. This guy WAS a hoot. A steer raised by wolves? How ingenius. Oh and let’s not forget Really Really Big Man and his magical nipples.

Photo Scavenger Hunt Instructions

We had a great time at the MUC yesterday! My-Eddy.com would like to give a huge special thanks to the hardworking girls of the PRSSA on campus. Thank you all so much for your help!
For those who didn’t get to hear us at the Morris University Center yesterday or can’t find the info you need on the other pages here are the basic instructions for participating in the contest.

Instructions:

Read the rules! There aren’t too many but you need to understand them if you want to be able to win.

After clicking on the “accept these rules” button look at all the photographs with Eddy the Block in them. All these were taken in the Edwardsville/Glen Carbon/ SIUE Campus area.

To find most of these photos you’re going to have to search for the clues out around town in local shops and restaurants. (Hint: Most of the participating businesses are located near each other.)

The shops and their corresponding clues are listed above their photographs. The number on the photographs matches that number clue.

After finding the location take a picture of yourself in the same location as Eddy the Block in his photos. You do not need to be in the same pose but try to get the same background into the photo so we can count it towards completion.

After getting all 10 locations photographed with you in the picture send all the photos together or in two sets of 5 to contest@my-eddy.com with your name in the email. Your name will be added to the drawing for all the prizes. If you’re the first one to complete the hunt you’ll automatically win a prize which will be handed out at the drawing. Make sure you get your emails in before the morning of April 18th.

The drawing will be on April 18th at 5PM at the Edwardsville Township Park (The airplane park.) There will be a pavilion reserved and marked with a My-Eddy.com banner. The prizes will be drawn for and handed out at that location. You must be at the drawing in order to win.

Wristbands will be handed out at the drawing because after all the prizes are handed out, Big Daddy’s Patio Bar and Grill will be hosting an after party for participants 21 years or older. There will be discounts on drinks for scavenger hunt participants from 6PM – 9PM.

If you have any questions or comments please don’t hesitate to email us at contact@my-eddy.com

Have fun!

Happy National Headache Day

Ok, so it’s probably not a national holiday but I’m going to go out on a limb here and say a huge percentage of America is celebrating it whether they like it or not. Were you the guy who just kept winning all those green beer pitcher chugging contests? Or were you the girl who just couldn’t stop laughing after taking that last green shot? St. Patrick’s Day brings a lot of people to the bars and that means there are a whole lot of characters out and about. Last night, during my own drinkscapade, I saw Awesome-Dressed-Up-Guy, Perpetually-stuck-in-just-friends-mode-but-still-out-with-8-cute-girls-guy, Can’t-stop-shouting-girl, and my personal favorite from last night, Got-denied-by-a-girl-at-the-bar-dude.

This guy comes up to this girl while I’m standing next to the bar waiting for a couple Irish Car Bombs.
He says, “Hey there, can I buy you a drink.”
“No.”
“Why not?”
“My friend here is buying me a drink.” As she points to the girl in front of her.
My drinks took forever so I saw that when the unlucky dude walked away she preceded to buy herself a drink becaues she didn’t even know the girl who was ordering ahead of her. Ouch! You’ve definitely got to work on something you’re doing wrong if girls aren’t even letting you buy them drinks!

Hey readers, what were your favorite St. Patty’s Day moments? Write a post below and tell us about them.

Edwardsville St. Patty’s Day – Local Bar Outlook

Tomorrow is a day for the Irish (and us who claim Irish once a year) to celebrate their heritage and the patron saint, Saint Patrick, with corn beef and cabbage and massive quantities of alcohol. In the spirit of St. Patty’s day several Edwardsville bars have drink and food specials going on. Here’s the 411:

Big Daddy’s will have corn beef and cabbage all day, DJ at 9pm, $4 bombs, $4 pitchers, $2 for 4 tacos, $3 Killian’s, and $4 Irish car bombs.

Shenanigan’s, you know…the place with all the crazy shit on the walls. Hosting a band on their patio, starting around 6pm and corn beef and cabbage all day. $5 Killian’s mug with $3.75 refills, $6 Guinness mug with $4.75 refills (get to keep the mugs).

Stagger Inn is set for gaelic food junkies with corn beef and cabbage, shepherd’s pie, and traditional Irish stew. $4 black and tans (keep the glass).

Laurie’s Place will have specials on Killian’s and, you guessed it, corn beef and cabbage all day. $1 Natty and the new Boulevard Irish Ale.

Bull and Bear will be the only place in town serving green beer. $1 green Bud Select, Bud Light, or Miller Lite.

Now, if you aren’t a drinker you can always hit McDonald’s for a Shamrock shake, do an Irish jig, or rent Leprechaun in the Hood. Lep in the hood, come to do no good, lep in the hood — what a bad movie.

Note: drink responsibly, use the blood alcohol calculator

Break Is Over?!

It hurts doesn’t it?

Last night probably hit most of us like a ton of bricks. All that fun we were having in Florida, or Cabo, or Hawaii is all done now and we have to go back to work. Hopefully, unlike me, you all didn’t have homework keep you up until midnight. In my defense though, I was distracted by Will Ferrall’s Broadway show last night along with a whole marathon of MANswers!. Both those shows were awesome and I recommend them to anyone who does a little procrastination on the side.

A little update from Walt Disney World’s Magical Kingdom. Mickey is still in charge. Brer Rabbit still gets away from Brer Fox and Brer Bear. The monorail is still not as impressive as my youth’s era of the Disney channel led me to believe. Food is still expensive as @#$%. The frozen lemonade they had was delicious and not expensive at all. Last but not least, in general, the weather was AWESOME all week. Hope you all make it down there sometime in your life. It is worth the visit.

Seeya in class!

Stout and Oyster Fest Comes to Edwardsville

St. Louis brewing company Schlafly is hosting the Stout and Oyster Festival 2009 this Friday and Saturday, March 6-7. Over 25,000 oysters are flown in with shuckers to help with the mass distribution. Schlafly highlights three of their stout beers as oyster complements.

For those of us not inclined to travel to St. Louis for the event (or just want to save some gas $$), the early bird event is taking place at a local Edwardsville bar. Brew and oyster action gets rolling in Edwardsville at the Stagger Inn on Thursday, March 5 at 4pm.

Two New Restaurants Added to Edwardsville Crossing

Two new restaurants have signed leases and are currently moving into the building behind Dierberg’s, according to an article in The Intelligencer today. La Casa Mexicana and Rise & Dine Restaurant. The location is a bit off the beaten path but still offers great choices to the area that is smack-dab in the middle of Edwardsville. Oh and keeping the university in mind; Rise & Dine looks like it has some solid hang-over food.

Ground was broken in 2006 on the 58-acre plot of land and currently plays host to Dierberg’s Market, Buffalo Wild Wings, St. Louis Bread Company, Red Robin, 54th Street Grill, Office Depot, Michael’s Arts and Crafts, Petco, Best Buy, Borders Books and Music, Ashley Furniture, Old Navy, Starbucks, Verizon, Clarkson Eye Care, Bank of America and Hudson Jewelers.
