The Lucky Ones Movie

In June 2007 portions of the movie “The Lucky Ones” were filmed in downtown Edwardsville at Mojo’s Music. The scene filmed was actually set in Denver, CO so the downtown signs and license plates were changed. The film, staring Tim Robbins and Rachel McAdams, is available at any local Blockbuster.

Tour de Donut Bicycle Race

The 21st annual Tour de Donut in Staunton, IL is set to take place Saturday, July 11, 2009. The bicycle race was chartered by the Mid-America Bicycle Club and later passed down to the Boeing Employee’s Bicycle Club (BEBC).

The premise of the 32 mile race is to devour as many donuts as possible at the two designated en route donut stops. Each donut consumed drops 5 minutes from your overall race time.

The course spans rolling terrain and country roads around Staunton stopping twice at city parks stocked with 1,000 donuts per site. Prizes include top 3 age groupers, cash prizes for most donuts eaten, attendance prizes, and a special award for the partipant from the further distance.

Online registration is required before the event. Come hungry if you want to compete; 2008 tour champion Bradley Meinke consumed 33 donuts and finished with an adjusted time of -25:06!

Leclaire Lake Fishing Derby

The Leclaire Lake Fishing Derby takes place this Saturday, June 27, 2009 at 10am. Show up at, you guessed it, Leclaire Park in Edwardsville just off of Troy Rd. The schedule for the event is as follows:

10am-10:30am Safety and Fishing Tips from IDNR
10:30am-11:45am Fishing Competition
11:45pm Fishing Ends and fish get counted

Prizes for the most fish and the biggest fish! The meeting spot for the event is located at 900 Hale Avenue, Edwardsville, IL 62025.

Dine Out for the Cure Tonight

Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure is this Saturday, June 13th in St. Louis. The annual event helps raise money for breast cancer research. In addition to the typical race this year is an added option to Dine Out for the Cure.

Dine Out for the Cure is going on Thursday, June 11th at over 200 St. Louis area restaurants and cafes. There are several restaurants in the Edwardsville and Glen Carbon area participating including:

  • Cold Stone Creamery, Edwardsville
  • Fond, Edwardsville
  • Red Robin Gourmet Burgers, Edwardsville
  • Denny’s, Glen Carbon
  • Papa John’s, Glen Carbon

Choose any of these fine establishments and a portion of your bill will go towards finding cures for breast cancer. Fond, is the newly opened fine dining restaurant on Main St. in Edwardsville. Sounds like a great idea for a date night…

My-Eddy.com has always been a collaborative effort and now we’re taking steps to make it even more interactive. We can’t be everywhere at once and that’s why we want YOU to contribute the news that makes the homepage. In other words, we want you to be a contributing editor-in-chief. Horseradish Festival Spices Up Collinsville

Teary eyes and running noses will be the victims. The culprit? Mounds and mounds of horseradish on just about any kind of food you could ever want.

The 2009 International Horseradish Festival will take place this weekend in Collinsville, IL. Horseradish is a close relative of mustard, technically a vegetable, that when mixed with vinegar creates a spicy sensation that makes each drink of water bigger than the last one.

The event features free entertainment, food booths, root toss, root sacking contest, Bloody Mary contest, horseradish cooking contest, washer tournament, fishing derby, the Annual Root Derby, and a Little Miss Horseradish Pageant. Festival schedule is as follows:

Cheers at St. Louis Brewers Festival June 5-6

99 samples of beer in the tent, 99 samples of beer….take one down, and then walk around…98 samples of beer still to drink. Well, not 99, but there will be over 60 beer styles to sample at the upcoming Saint Louis Brewers Heritage Festival, affectionately known as Brewfest.

The event features over 10 local brewers including AB, Schlafly, Morgan Street, Mattingly, Alandale, O’Fallon, Buffalo and Trailhead Brewing Company. This is the 3rd year for the event and looks to be the biggest yet with live music, local food vendors, and of course unlimited sampling!

Friday, June 5, 6pm – 10pm

Saturday, June 6, 6pm – 10pm

The event takes place in Forest Park, St. Louis, MO and tickets cost $30 in advance or $35 at the festival. With so many great beers on tap you’ll want to bring a designated driver to make sure you find your way home!
