10th Annual Edwardsville Block Party
The 10th Annual SIUE Welcome Back Block Party is tonight (8/28/09) from 6pm to 12am. Head downtown Edwardsville to 2nd and St. Louis St. (near the courthouse) to get in on all the action!
My Own Medicine Band will provide live music as the centerpiece of the block party but there will also be a number of vendors offering food, clothing, and airbrush tattoos. Admission is FREE! The event has lost its luster in recent years after several rain outs. Let’s hope for good weather tonight and a block party to remember!

Tax Free Holiday in Missouri August 7-9, 2009

It’s about that time. Time to go back to school. Luckily for parents and fledgling college students on a shoestring budget there is the Missouri Tax Free Weekend.
This weekend, August 7th to 9th, is the tax free holiday and perfect time to purchase school supplies, computers, software, and clothing. Many states offer sales tax holidays but unfortunately Illinois is not one of them.
Missouri Tax free purchases apply to:
Clothing under $100
School supplies under $50
Computer software under $350
Computers and computer equipment under $3,500
Energy star certified appliances up to $1,500
Go out and save some money, fill that dorm room, or get that spiffy new laptop that is completely necessary for lecture note taking. If there is one idea that we can all get behind, it’s saving money.
Party Poopers: Some cities and counties in Missouri elect not to participate (list).
