SIUE School of Business Open House

SIUE School of Business is sponsoring an open house this Saturday, February 27th in Edwardsville. Business students can attend informational sessions on accounting, management, economics and finance, and computer management and information systems. According to the SIUE Career Development Center, more business students participate in internships and Co-op programs than students from any other academic area, and SIUE business students are recruited by virtually all of the major corporations in the region. Free parking is available in Lot A.

Summer ShowBiz 2010 Auditions Set For Feb. 19 At SIUE

Auditions for all ages for Southern Illinois University Edwardsville’s Summer ShowBiz 2010 theater season are set for Friday, Feb. 19, in SIUE’s Dunham Hall. For a musical theater part, participants must prepare 16-32 bars of a show tune; bring sheet music. For a non-musical role, prepare a one minute monologue. Call backs will take place Saturday, Feb. 20. To reserve an audition time, call (618) 650-2773 or drop by the Department of Theater and Dance in Dunham Hall.

The three Summer ShowBiz 2010 productions are:

  • Ruthless! The Musical, June 10-13 and 17-20, with music by Marvin Laird and book and lyrics by Joel Paley, is an all-female musical that spoofs Broadway musicals such as Gypsy and Mame, while incorporating story plots from films such as The Bad Seed and All About Eve. Among the roles are two young female parts for ages 10 and up.
  • The Lady Cries Murder by John William See, June 23-27, is best described as a “Raymond Chandler parody within a parody.” This smart and funny comedy goes all out for the murder mystery genre. Roles are available for ages 16 and up.
  • Seussical, July 14-18, with music by Stephen Flaherty, lyrics by Lynn Ahrens and book by Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty, is an imaginative romp through the world of Dr. Seuss, delivering “a cornucopia of laughter and imaginative story-telling.” Many roles are available for all ages.

Summer Showbiz is a summer production program that has been offered by the SIUE Department of Theater and Dance for more than 30 years.

NCSC Route 66 Tour at SIUE

Jillien Gordon is visiting universities nationwide motivating and spreading insights for students to prepare to be successful in their futures. Presentation focus: 66 ways for students to maximize their college experience, ways to help students to find a job and degree they are passionate about, and ways to help students to develop social and financial capital. Also, a $1,000 SCHOLARSHIP will be given to someone in the audience! Scholarship eligibility includes pre-registration at ROUTE66.CC. The event will take place Monday, February 15th from 6:30pm-8:00pm at the Morris University Center (Maple/Dogwood Rooms).

IHSA Wrestling Sectionals at Edwardsville High School

Edwardsville High School will host 1 of 4 Boys Wrestling Class 3A Sectionals this weekend. Top ranked 3A teams in the state such as Minooka (1st), Sandburg (2nd), Granite City (3rd) Lockport, (4th) Providence (5th), Edwardsville (7th), Marist, Stagg, and Moline will compete. Individuals in each of the 14 weight classes will vie for a top-3 finish qualify for state competition.

All tickets are $5.00 per session, as priced by the IHSA. Gym will be cleared after each session.

STAT SIUE Polar Bare Run

STAT – Polar Bare Run

STAT and fellow SIUE students are not letting the winter weather ruin their fun! Join us as we run a “nearly-naked” mile around the Stratton Quad to support the Glen Ed Pantry on Sunday, February 21st. The event kicks off with check-in at 7:30pm, followed by the one-mile run at 8:00pm.
Registration Information
The registration fee is $10 plus one donated warm-clothing item on the night of the run. The fee includes a Polar Bare Fun Run t-shirt, hot chocolate and cookies in the warm-up tent and live music from Smitty’s D.J. Service.

Pre-register by Friday, February 5th to guarantee your t-shirt size (small-XL). Final registration date is Friday, February 12th.

Attire for this event must provide a minimum of swimsuit coverage. However, creativity with your BAREly there outfits is highly welcomed.

Glen Ed Pantry Donations
All participants must bring a minimum of one warm-clothing item donation with them on the night of the event. Donations will be collected at the registration table on the Quad. Acceptable items include sweatshirts, hoodies, jackets, coats, pants, gloves, scarves, hats and socks. Please bring a new or gently used donation item.

The Glen Ed Pantry exists to provide regular, emergency and referral services to people whose household income falls below the Illinois Department of Human Services eligibility guidelines. These services include: food, clothing, rent and utility assistance, school supplies, Christmas and Thanksgiving baskets and referrals for vision and dental care. The Glen Ed Pantry serves over 300 families every month.

Glen Carbon Library Receives National Award

Glen Carbon, IL (KPLR) – Glen Carbon proves it stands up against the best when it comes to library services. The extra features this library offers are what secured a national award for the Glen Carbon Centennial Library.

Using technology to expand library services is one of the criteria that helped this library win the title of “Best Small Library in America”. The award is given by the Library Journal and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Glen Carbon wins the small library award hands down with a population of less than 25,000 people. They have increased the door count 33%.

The recognition includes a $15,000 cash award. The award will be presented in March at the National Conference of the Library Association in Portland Oregon.
