Wildey Theatre Announces June Movie Schedule
Movies, movies and more movies fill the Wildey Theatre’s June schedule, sponsored by Anderson Hospital.
First up on June 3rd is the Bradley Cooper slacker comedy “The Hangover”, wreaking havoc on Las Vegas and relationships alike, followed by Pedro Almodovar’s Oscar-nominated “Volver”, starring the glorious Penelope Cruz.
In tribute to the “Route 66 Festival”, the Wildey has gone automotive, with the return after 33 years of “Stingray”, featuring Edwardsville and the area as it once was in a wild car chase movie showing Friday, June 10. On the 11th we offer “Looney Tunes: Back in Action” for the kids, with morning and afternoon showings, and that evening we present a far more contemporary approach to autos in “Fast & Furious”.
The Wildey salutes director Alfred Hitchcock and actor Jimmy Stewart with two heart-pounding classics – “Vertigo” and “Rear Window”. Both films play on June 12 & June 16, and are available as individual showings or at a special price as a double feature.
June 17 is a true movie lovers day, as we offer two showings of Steven Spielberg’s beloved film “E.T.: The Extraterrestrial”, followed by a midnight showing of the Jeff Bridges/John Goodman cult fave “The Big Lebowski”.
Having added double features, the Wildey has scheduled our first Triple Feature, the Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd comedies “Back to the Future” and BTTF parts 2 & 3. The June 18 showings are available individually, or at a special price of $15.00 for all three movies.
Another double feature salutes writer/director Mel Brooks, with showings of “Young Frankenstein” and “Blazing Saddles” alternating on June 23 & 24, and available at a special price for both.
Finally, The Wildey is teaming with Encore Wine Bar to present “A Wine Tasting & a Movie” on June 30. A broad selection of excellent wines will be available for tasting in the theatre’s lobby from 6:30 to 7:45pm, followed by a showing of the Meryl Streep, Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin comedy-drama “It’s Complicated” at 8:00pm. Tickets for the wine tasting and movie are $15.00.
Tickets for films at the Wildey can be purchased on our website – www.wildeytheatre.com, at the Parks & Recreation Department at City Hall (618-692-7538) or at the theatre’s ticket booth beginning one hour before the showing. A schedule of June concerts and events will be released shortly.

The Buried Life Visits SIUE
MTV’s The Buried Life at SIUE on April 12, 2011. Photo from The Alestle on Flickr
Other than the fact that the audience kept trying to kiss the performers, Campus Activity Board’s “The Buried Life” production on Tuesday night at SIUE was inspirational to say the least. With their five-year anniversary in February, the cast of “The Buried Life” runs a television project on MTV recording the actions of four guys (Ben Nemtin, Dave Lingwood, Duncan Penn and Jonnie Penn) attempting to complete a list of things they want to do before they die. Their director is Brad Tiemann of Alton.
The guys are in charge of filming, editing and sending the episodes in full for MTV to air without any further edits.
The list counts 100 items for structure, but changes and morphs along with their passions, according to Lingwood.
“We use the structure of one hundred just cause it sounds nice, but no, we’ll keep on going even after we cross off a hundred things,” Lingwood said.
Eighty-four items have been completed on the list thus far.
“The Buried Life” used a Powerpoint-style presentation to show their successes and inspire the audience, welcoming their audience to come up to the microphones and share “what they want to do before they die.”

Tim Reynolds & TR3 at Wildey Theatre
Acclaimed guitarist and longtime Dave Matthews collaborator Tim Reynolds and TR3 have been added to the Wildey Theatre’s schedule, with a concert set for Saturday, April 23, 2011 at 9:00 p.m.
With a musical career spanning more than thirty-five years, guitarist and sonic innovator, two time Grammy nominee Tim Reynolds is known for his masterful command of melody and timing and for his uncanny ability to improvise on any instrument he touches. Having explored most musical styles, from rock, jazz and blues to classical and reggae, Reynolds’ wide-ranging musical versatility is evident each time he picks up his electric or acoustic guitar. Technically brilliant, yet emotionally honest, Reynolds’ music is inspired and authentic.
It was in the mid 1980s in Charlottesville, VA, when Reynolds founded his breakthrough electric power trio, TR3 (Tim Reynolds Trio), known for their fusion of funk, rock, and jazz. He toured with TR3 during the 1980s and 1990s, using a rotating cast of musicians. It was at this time he befriended Dave Matthews and their ongoing musical collaboration began. He eventually decided to disband TR3, relocate to Santa Fe, NM, and pursue a solo career. His musical progression continued throughout his many years on the road as a solo guitar wizard, playing for packed houses and to crowds who quickly determined that Reynolds is one of the most talented and thoughtful musicians on the circuit today.
Tickets, which are $35.00 for reserved seats, are now on sale through the Edwardsville Theatre’s website, www.wildeytheatre.com. Tickets can also be purchased in person at the Parks and Recreation Department, 2nd Floor of City Hall, 118 Hillsboro Avenue, Edwardsville, IL. The Parks Department will also handle the sale of all Disabled seats. For more information, please call (618) 692-7538.

“Move to Division I affects more than sports” from The Alestle
“According to Durr, the 200-page report she and a 50-person committee are writing is due to the NCAA April 29 and is mandatory for any school in transition roughly halfway through their transition to ensure the university is committed to integrity within its athletics department. Durr said the athletic programs making the transition can be very attractive to incoming students.”
…
“Moving to D-I will enhance campus life, school spirit and pride,” Emmanuel said. “Students feel good about being at an institution that is considered D-I. It will enhance the relationship with the town. The town will also take a sense of pride as local businesses benefit from a D-I program that attracts more people to the area.”
